Kenmare’s Five Star Park Hotel For Sale

The five star Park Hotel in Kenmare, currently owned by renowned hoteliers Francis and John Brennan, has been put up for sale with property agents CBRE.  The legendary luxury hotel, a jewel in the crown of County Kerry's hospitality offering, has an asking price of €17.5m or €20.5m to include the Brennan's other hotel in the town – The Lansdowne.

Having only acquired The Lansdowne in 2020, the news of their intention to sell both marquee properties may come as a surprise however with Francis spending more than 40 years at the helm of the Park Hotel, the brothers have made the difficult decision – along with joint owner Fergal Naughton – to find a new owner for both establishments.  At the time of their announcement, the brothers commented “As you can imagine it was not an easy or quick decision to make. The Park has enjoyed a wonderful life making many peoples’ stay with us memorable and while only in its infancy, The Lansdowne Kenmare, is following in its footsteps”.

Their Lansdowne purchase, made during COVID times, took the hotel out of liquidation and was then followed by a major investment to upgrade the 18th century property in to an elegant, town centre hotel.  The four star, 28 room property has benefitted from an unwavering attention to detail for which the brothers have become known in their popular TV documentary At Your Service – in which they help other hospitality entrepreneurs improve and refine their own businesses.

John, the younger of the brothers, was diagnosed with cancer shortly after their purchase of The Lansdowne and whilst his condition is treatable, the diagnosis – together with the opportunity to slow down and reflect during COVID – means that he will focus on running his lakeside Dromquinna Manor resort with his wife, whilst Francis can spend more time on some of his other interests including writing (he has already written three books including his Guide to Life and Guide to Happiness), travel and TV appearances. 

Having served the Irish luxury hospitality industry so well, the brothers rightly commented”…we feel the time is right to take some time to ourselves, pursue other interests and business opportunities”.
