Midleton Very Rare Unveils Silent Distillery Collection Chapter Six: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Irish Whiskey

The world of fine whiskey has witnessed history with the unveiling of Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection Chapter Six — the final release in what is regarded as the oldest and rarest Irish whiskey collection ever created. With a limited run and a retail price of €60,000/£55,000/$60,000 USD, this extraordinary expression represents not just a whiskey, but the closing chapter of a legend.

The Final Drops of a Silent Giant

The Silent Distillery Collection began in 2020, paying tribute to the now-closed Old Midleton Distillery, which operated from 1825 until its closure in 1975. Chapter Six, marking the distillery’s 200th anniversary, contains the very last drops ever to emerge from its famed copper pot stills — once hailed as the seventh wonder of the whiskey world.

Distilled 50 years ago by the late Max Crockett, considered the forefather of modern Irish whiskey, Chapter Six has been nurtured over five decades by successive Master Distillers — Barry Crockett, Brian Nation, and current guardian Kevin O’Gorman. It represents a continuity of craft that few whiskeys can ever claim.

A Masterpiece of Craft and Heritage

This remarkable spirit began life in ex-bourbon American oak before being transferred into a one-of-a-kind marrying cask, created by Master Cooper Ger Buckley. In a poetic tribute, Buckley built the cask from staves used in the previous five Silent Distillery chapters, ensuring that the finale embodies every stage of the collection’s journey.

The result is a whiskey of extraordinary depth and balance — vibrant fresh fruits interwoven with earthy notes of aged oak and tobacco leaf, an elusive harmony that is rarely achieved in ultra-aged whiskeys.

Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman reflects:

“Chapter Six has been looked after like no other. While there is sadness as this era closes, there is immense pride in unveiling these last, precious drops. We have encapsulated the very essence of Old Midleton in this ultimate expression.”

A Decanter Worthy of the Liquid Gold Within

To house such rarity, Midleton turned to Ireland’s most skilled artisans. Each decanter has been individually mouth-blown, hand-etched, and polished by the master glassmakers of the House of Waterford, an icon of Irish craftsmanship. The presentation cabinet, designed by Irish craftsman John Galvin, is a triumph of design and heritage: six rare woods symbolising the six chapters, 18-carat gold-plated details, and a hand-stitched leather interior lined with reclaimed oak from Irish whiskey vats.

Together, bottle and cabinet form an heirloom piece — as rare and precious as the whiskey itself.

A Collector’s Holy Grail

With its price tag, exquisite rarity, and historical significance, Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection Chapter Six is destined for the most exclusive collections in the world. It is both a celebration of Ireland’s distilling past and a symbol of its enduring legacy.

For those fortunate enough to taste it, this whiskey offers more than flavour — it offers an encounter with history, craftsmanship, and luxury at the very highest level.

Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection Chapter Six is now available to buy through specialist retailers worldwide.

The collection is also available by the dram in some of Ireland's best hotels including Ashford Castle and Adare Manor.
